Artist of the Month
Maxien Marcy Coeur d’ Alene, ID www.maxien@fineartbymax.com Mediums: Ceramics, Glass Etching, Hand Made Brushes, Oil painting, Print Making, and Sculpture. I believe that everything a person touches should create joy within and fond memories of special times. I like to create art in three different types of mediums to observe how people perceive an image or object. The way people react to color, medium substrates, texture and dimension is what drives me to create art. If I make an oil painting I then will usually make something in clay and or a linoleum print to follow up with perception ides. Most of the ceramic items are functional ware. The marks on the clay vessels are often made with my hand made brushes for an original look. I offer beginning art lessons in many mediums.

Ben and Linda Marra - presentation and book signing
July 21st - 7:30 Auntie's Bookstore, 402 W. Main Street, Spokane (509) 838-0206 Faces from the Land: Twenty Years of Powwow Tradition with Ben and Linda Marra Photographer Ben Marra and his wife, Linda, spent twenty years traveling to powwows across North America documenting the powwow dancers and the brilliant colors, incredible craftsmanship, and personal significance of their regalia. Heritage, family, tribe, and culture are woven into the dancing dress as inextricably as any thread. In Faces from the Land each dancer recounts his or her own journey to the drum circle, and one thing becomes clear; a new generation of Native Americans is determined and honor-bound to keep the dancing tradition alive. The talk features a 7-minute visual presentation set to powwow music, Q & A, and an opportunity to purchase a personally signed book.
